How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”
Romans 10:14

What is RTBE?

Released Time Bible Education is an organization dedicated to the teaching of the Word of God to public school children. With a foundation of a Supreme Court ruling we are granted the right to provide an opportunity for all to learn the Word of God

Why is RTBE Needed and is it Legal?

The challenge is real. More students than ever are not partnered with a local church and do not have any biblical teaching in their life. In 1952 the SCOTUS passed a ruling in order to teach the Bible to public school children.

Here are the basics you need to know to make your Released Time program legal:

  1. Instruction must take place off school grounds;

  2. Students’ attendance must be voluntary, with written parental permission; and

  3. No state resources (taxpayer funds) may be used. RT is funded privately - by churches, community organizations and/or individuals.

RTBE in YSD1

In 2007, the York School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously to allow students to leave their respective schools once a week to attend a Bible class.  The program is offered nationwide and many public-school districts in South Carolina participate. We are blessed that the program will be offered again during the 2025-2026 school year.

RTBE is supported by donations from churches, Sunday School Classes, parents, Christian individuals, civic groups, and clubs throughout York School District One.  The program is sanctioned by South Carolina state law and by ruling of the United States Supreme Court and is interdenominational.
